About SSODA

Helping the South Shore find and sustain housing since 2021

Our Mission

South Shore Open Doors Association (SSODA) strives to provide trauma informed and low barrier supports to people facing homelessness and housing insecurities in Lunenburg and Queens counties.

Through coordinated access, emergency shelter, housing support, and trusteeship services, we address both immediate needs and long-term stability for our community's most vulnerable members.

Land Acknowledgement

South Shore Open Doors Association is located in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, on the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi'kmaq People, known as Mi'kma'ki. This land has been home to the Mi'kmaq for thousands of years, and the LaHave River — the waterway our community is built along — held deep significance for them long before European settlement. This territory is covered by the Peace and Friendship Treaties, first signed in 1726, which did not surrender land but instead established an ongoing relationship between nations. We recognize that our work supporting housing stability in Lunenburg and Queens counties takes place on this land, and we are committed to honouring the Mi'kmaq people's continued connection to it.
